MADRAS INSTITUTE OF TECHOLOGY (MIT) is one of the Premier Technical Institute started in the year 1949 by Shri. C. Rajam, an eminent industrialist. This institute was the first in the country to introduce specialized branches like Aeronautical, Automobile and Instrumentation Engineering. It was merged with Anna University in the year 1978. Now the institute also offers Production, Rubber and Plastics, Electronics, Computer, Information and Mechanical Engineering courses. A large number of alumnus of MIT are in key positions in research and development organizations, manufacturing industries and educational institutions within the country and abroad. Dr. A.P.J.Abdulkalam, the Former President of India, was one among the renowned alumnus of MIT.
