ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
The Annamalai University is a unitary, teaching, and residential university. It was founded by the farsighted and noble hearted philanthropist and patron of letters the late Hon’ble Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, Kt, LL.D., D.Litt. He started several colleges, and ultimately, the University in 1929. Since its inception, it has progressively tried to realize the aims of the noble Founder Pro-Chancellor. After him, his illustrious son, Padma Bhushan Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad, was the Pro-Chancellor from 1948 to 1984, and he sedulously nurtured the growth and development of the University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has accredited Annamalai University at the 'A' Grade level among the universities.
ABOUT THE DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION
The Directorate of Distance Education established in 1979, and now offers more than five hundred and one different programmes of study under the Regular Stream. It is credited with the largest enrolment in India and is well equipped with computer and other infrastructure, adequate teaching faculty and administrative set-up of its own, study centres, computer training centres, etc., to serve its students' clientele in their best interest at their door steps.
ABOUT THE ECONOMICS WING
The Economics wing, which was incepted in the academic year 1979-80 with B.A. and M.A. Economics with one teacher for co-ordinating the programmes, has now expanded in leaps and bounds. The faculty strength is now 18, At present, the wing is offering B.A. and M.A. Economics Programmes through regular scheme in both English and Tamil Medium. B.A. and M.A. Economics overseas Programmes are also offered. The wing is now headed by Dr. I.SUNDAR under his stewardship, the staff members of Economics has undertaken a lot of innovative academic and research activities. He has been motivating and coordinating the staff members in successfully organizing and conducting the personal contact programme of the Economics Wing.
